Celebrating Patriotism Through Art
The Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Department of Alaska proudly supports the Illustrating America contest — a creative program that invites Alaska’s youth to express their pride, patriotism, and appreciation for our nation through original artwork.
This program encourages students to reflect on what America means to them while developing their artistic skills and confidence. Winning entries from Alaska advance to the National level for recognition and awards.
Open to Alaska students in grades K–8.
Judged in three divisions:
Grades K–2
Grades 3–5
Grades 6–8
Artwork must be the student’s original creation.
Acceptable media: crayon, pencil, ink, paint, watercolor, chalk, or digital art.
No glued items, collage materials, or 3-D effects.
Entries must be on paper or canvas 8½″ × 11″ or 9″ × 12″.
Each submission must include the official Illustrating America entry form.
